Each year in February or March, the Mardi Gras celebration in the Gaslamp Quarter features a masquerade parade, live music, Cajun food and drink, and general wild revelry.
This downtown neighborhood is famous for its original gas lamps; over 50 businesses in the area participate in the festivities.
Admission to the Mardi Gras festivities is free; individual bars and restaurants charge for food, drink, and in some cases, admission.
For a charge of $40, upgrades to VIP status are available, which include admission and amenities at ten of the Gaslamp area's favorite night clubs.
