The 56th Annual World Championship Over-the-Line Tournament is held for two weekends in July; sponsored by the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club, 1,200 3-person teams play almost 2,400 softball-type games on Fiesta Island in Mission Bay.
Over-the-line (OTL) games are played on the sand; the pitcher and batter are on the same team.
The objective is for the batter to hit the ball over the line into fair territory without a fielder from the opposing team catching it.
Over 50,000 spectators come out to enjoy the boisterous and often R-rated OTL games; admission is free for spectators, and OTL teams pay $75 to register. |
